Lost Meta Admin - What to do!

If you've lost contact with the only other admin on your Meta Business Manager and can't get approval to add a new admin or access business assets, here’s what you can do:

1. Try All Communication Avenues First

  • Before Meta will intervene, they’ll expect you've attempted to contact the existing admin.
  • Try email, phone, LinkedIn, or any former communication channels.

2. Prepare Documentation

To initiate account recovery, you’ll need to prove ownership or legitimate association with the business. Gather:

  • Business registration documents
  • Proof of identity (passport, driver's licence)
  • Invoices from Meta (if you’ve run ads in the past)
  • Domain ownership (e.g. ability to verify domain in Meta Business Settings)
  • Email addresses tied to the business (ideally matching the business domain)

3. Start the Meta Support Process

  • Go to the Meta Business Help Centre
  • Click “Get Help” and choose the option that lets you speak to support or file an admin access issue
  • Select:
    Managing Business Settings → Business Manager Admin Access → I’ve lost access or can’t reach the admin

4. Submit an Admin Change Request

Meta will ask you to fill out a form or speak to an agent who will then initiate a manual review. Be ready to provide:

  • Your Business Manager ID (found in Settings)
  • Any past ad account numbers
  • The reason you need admin access
  • Uploaded documentation (as above)

5. Verify Domain Ownership

If the Business Manager is connected to your domain:

  • Go to Business Settings → Brand Safety → Domains
  • Verify the domain (via DNS, HTML upload, or Meta tag)
  • Once verified, this can strengthen your case for admin rights

Important Notes:

  • Meta won’t remove another admin just because they’re unresponsive – they must verify you're the legitimate owner.
  • The process can take several days and requires patience and clear documentation.
  • If you’re entirely locked out and the business has no active admins, you may be advised to create a new Business Manager – but this should be a last resort.
