Choosing The Right Email Marketing Platform - the difference between Klaviyo, Mailchimp and Flodesk

Mailchimp, Flodesk and Klaviyo are all email marketing platforms, but there are some key differences between them.

  1. Target audience: Klaviyo is designed specifically for ecommerce businesses, while Mailchimp and Flodesk cater to a wider range of businesses. 

  2. Features: Klaviyo offers advanced ecommerce features such as abandoned cart reminders, product recommendations, and purchase tracking, while Mailchimp has more basic email marketing features. Flodesk has fewer advanced features but focuses on creating beautiful and simple email designs.

  3. Pricing: Klaviyo's pricing is based on the number of contacts you have, while Mailchimp's pricing is based on the number of emails you send, and Flodesk has a flat monthly fee regardless of the number of subscribers or emails sent. 

  4. Integration: Klaviyo integrates with a wide range of ecommerce platforms such as Shopify, Magento, and BigCommerce, while Mailchimp and Flodesk offers integrations with a broader range of platforms including social media, landing pages and others. Shopify integration with Mailchimp and Flodesk is possible but slightly more in depth. 

  5. Personalisation: Klaviyo has more advanced personalisation options, allowing businesses to send targeted emails based on customer behaviour and preferences, while Mailchimp has fewer options for customisation and automation.

Mailchimp and Flodesk may be a better fit for small businesses or those with simpler email marketing needs, less technical expertise and a lower budget. Klaviyo is a better fit for ecommerce businesses that require more advanced ecommerce features and integrations. 

Our recommendation for most clients is to use Flodesk as it allows you to easily crate and send beautiful marketing emails. Mailchimp is also good as it has a free plan option but the free plan doesn't allow you to schedule campaigns and has a cut off of 500 users before it starts charging. It also is not quite as easy to make your campaigns look super slick the way you can in Flodesk.
